Phoenix
Unit
The Phoenix Unit for
males ages 11-15 with an IQ of 80 or higher is a specialized treatment
program for adolescent males who engage in sexually abusive and sexually
aggressive behaviors towards others, in addition to general behavioral/
psychiatric problems that require the youth to be placed in a secure and
safe environment because the youth cannot be maintained safely in the
community.
The program is designed to treat residents using a combination of
cognitive-behavioral treatment (CBT), trauma focused cognitive behavioral
treatment (TF-CBT), and sex-offense specific treatment programming.
This program admits youth
based upon three principles:
1) risk for sexual
dangerousness
2) the special
psychiatric and treatment needs of the youth
3) the responsivity
principle ~ that the treatment and interventions match the needs and
characteristics of the youth.
